Revoltech Yamaguchi #89 Getter Go
I always think Getter Go as the unidentical twins of getter Neo. They have this similar design with different touch here and there. I have not watch the anime and just read few parts of the manga, but i think they both suffers similar type of pilots too :). Both of them also seems to have less popularity compare to the "red getters" mechas line. My biggest interest of getter go started after playing an old PSX games tittled Getter Robot Daikessen. This game was well made and surprisingly feels not to 'ancient' even if you experiencing playing the modern Super robot wars games. Definitelly a must try it if you are a fan of SRW genre.
The Looks
Getter Go never looks this "Macho" before and I think it’s because revoltech has granted him with muscular shoulders and upper body. He is also taller than Neo and has more modern looks. Details and paint are quite simple and well made. I personally like his appearance better than Neo.
Joints
Revolver joints placement could be seen from above picture. The head- neck connection does not used revolver like Neo, instead it use swivel at head and hinge at lower neck. It performs a great articulation imo. The hand improved by using swivel joint, but the connection peg became smaller. I remember reading a review which mentioned that it could get easily loose. Good thing I’ve not experience it so far. It has a bit movement at front abs and back muscle. Nothing hinder for articulation and overall similar to neo.
The only annoying minor when I first got him was loose revolver connection between upper body and lower abs. If you experience the same problem, just add a thin layer of paint on the revolver peg, then the problem solved. This chest-abs connection also gives me a little unpleasant feels at first. The connection holes for revolver peg at both sides are placed un-symmetrically which gives weird position if you rotate the upper body at its axis. But once I’ve got used to it, it turns out good somehow.
Accessories
One thing I forgot to mentioned in my previous post. Revoltech figure box give explanation about its accessories at the back of its box, so it will be easy for us to identify its completeness.
I would like to say getter Go has the similar amount of accessories compare to Neo, but I personally like his better.
Alternatives Head: I like the alternative head more than the original. It's an open mouth or angry look face. Too bad it has shorter peg and easily pop off when you give him rotation movement.
Back Pack: I like the back pack more than Neo's. It has fewer features than Neo's, but it has better looks. I think it’s more like Go carries nuclear missiles rather than a rocket pack. While Neo's has two revolver joints, Go's using what I called double revolver joint which give them good range of motion. The back thruster could also rotate.
Hand weapons: Two guns which does not look like a gun, a knife and a bullet holder.
The hand gun is loose and pop off easily :(. If you like them, apply a thin layer of paint to make the peg strongger. If not, just forget about them.
The knife has nice looking and could be folded like exia GN blade :).
The bullet holder used for holding the bullets. Unfortunately it can't be use upside down, because the bullets only hanging inside its hole not snap fitting.
Shotgun: The great thing about the shot gun is that it has bullet as it accessories. It also has open-shell movement to place the bullet inside. Not to mentioned its own bullet holding hand. My favorite weapon.
Swords Tomahawk: Or I would say; Tomahawk Sword! The main thing! It is quite big compare to the figure size. It has details in it and looks menacing. Only Daizengar Zankantou could par with it :).
Feet stomping effect part. Pretty much used like the name I gave it.
Others: The same as Neo. Action Base, Orange box and The Mighty Coin. The action base has additional peg for flaying pose, but I lost it :(. Good thing it has translucent clear color, which is better than Neo's.
Size comparison
Although taller than Neo, he still smaller than 1/144 real grade.
Final Thought
Great looking figure with few loose part problems which probably only happens on mine. But since they could easily fix with a little paint or glue, I still consider him as a great addition to your collection, especially within its range of price. Between Neo and Go, I would say that it depends on whether you like modern looks or classic looks better. Well, Neo does feel a bit more sturdy, but I personally prefer Go due to his better looks.

Revoltech #075 Getter Neo
Getter robo is the third video tape
show that i watch when I was a child, and my love for the getter turns out to
be bigger than the first and the second super robot, which is Voltes V and the
Adam of all robot; Mazingger Z. The idea of three plane join together to create
three kind of robot with each specialty is a real fresh idea at that moment,
and surprisingly; still stays as getter robot trademarks until today. Well,
there actually others such Aquarion, but I do not think it defeat the
popularity of getter team.
As far as I know, there still
no satisfying product has ever made to actualize the getter team transformation
concept as a model, figure or toy. Great getter figure out there is all standalone
figures which annoyingly make us have to: choose.
My favorite (and I think everybody
favorite) were the main getter one and all it’s variant. Neo and Go are
actually not the most famous among them but I bought both revoltech anyway
because they are most easy to get and affordable at that time.
I will write review only for getter
neo for this post and maybe for Go later.
The looks
Revoltech Neo inherits the
proportion of oldies fat super robot body type; which may not be suitable for everyone
tastes. I'm personally kinda like it since it brings memories back from the
good old eighties :). The paint job is quite nice due to its simple design. The
arm fins are sharp and a bit hard, so you may want to be careful with it. All
visible revolver joins are blended nice with the rest looks of the figure. I
know this character from Shin Getter Robo vs. Neo Getter Robo OVA
and I would like to say that he resemble the anime nicely.
Joints
Since this is a revoltech, I think
it would be more helpful to show the point where revoltech joints applied
rather than partial body articulation. As for revolver joint itself, I’m
thinking about making another post regarding it.
Except for the wrist joint, all of
the joints are revolver joints. The chest-abs joint is a revolver too. I just
could not detach it because it placed hindered so it did not shown clear at
pictures. With all this revolver joints around, I could say that possibility is
great. No loose or stiff joints. Action base will be needed by the way, since
it used revolver at ankle. Good thing this figure came up with standard revoltech
action base.
Accessories
This guy has good amount of accessories
on him. Check below up.
Back Pack: It made up of two individual parts. The left and right pack
has different size of attachment peg, so they are not exchangeable.
Each back patch consists of three
parts: thruster, container and rocket, which connected by small revolver joint!
The rocket has great movement because of it, while the thruster is not since it
being hinder by it shape design.
Great looking when attached to the figure.
Rocket launcher ! |
Chain knuckle: Two set of chain knuckle for this figure, the
punching and open palm. The chain of open palm supposed to be twice long and
curved. Mine is broken and I lost the other halve :(. Well, it's still good
enough for posing.
If only the assembly pegs were
not different with other optional hands and the chains were made to be
bend-able, the fun potential of this part will be awesome. Unfortunately they
aren't :(
Rifle and Knife: Both are made with nice detail. Each has its
own fix holding hand with pivot peg joint.
Optional peg for knife holder |
Plasma Thunder: Accessories for Neo’s signature attack which is my favorite.
It’s nicely made of blue translucent material. It could be hold securely using
its own optional open right hand with peg. The hand itself has a
swivel articulation joint. The other optional open left hand does exist, but
without hole to hold the Thunder.
If you see scratch on the hand peg, it is not original. I was modified it for other purpose :) |
Others:
I would like to categories them as
Important, less important and Most important.
Important: Action base, essential
for revoltech with ankle made of revolver joints, since it has difficulties of
standing up straight by itself.
Less important: orange box container
could be useful to keep small parts together. Ii won't do much good for bigger
parts.
MOST IMPORTANT: The yellow, un-shiny
plastic coin. This is the main reason you buy a revoltech figure! It’s even has
its own place displayed on the top of the box! We all love it! It just... most
of us has no idea how to use it...Important : Action Base |
Rider kick using action base |
Less important : part container, MOST important : THE PLASTIC COIN ! |
I'ts about 12cm which is shorter than common 1/144 gundam model kit.
Side to side with real grade |
Final Thought:
A very nice getter figure for your
collection. I got him with low price too, so it’s definitely a great one! As
far as I know, its rival Robot Damashii line has not touch the getter robo line
either. So I think it still the best figure exists for neo getter within its
price range.
