FIGMA #231 GUYVER 1

FIGMA GUYVER

Guyver was quite famous at his time as I could remember, perhaps almost as famous as Kamen riders or Ultraman series. He was also one of my favorite manga characters also, though I did not follow his story to its end. What I really like from this guy is the fact that his Bio Booster Armor from 1985’s design still looks very advanced even for today standard of super hero costumes.

The looks

I've only had Figma once and never get interest to try another until I saw this guy promotion picture. He looks bad-ass in those pictures and that’s why I decided to try this line once more.

And when I finally get him, he does looks really good.  Details and colors are as good as what they’ve been shown in the promo picture and I think it’s also anime accurate. Well... except for the chest canon which I think should be painted?

The head feels a bit too small compare to its body at my first saw, assuming that it should have a portion of human wearing helmet size.  But after slightly look again at its manga and anime artwork; I think it’s pretty much made on its right proportion.
Mechanical structure and Articulation
I think this is the most articulated Figma that I’ve encountered so far. It's only use single joints at its elbow and knee, but they use soft materials around his joints and the joint areas are not bulky. It might not be the best, but good enough to make any type of normal humanoid movements.
Head and Neck
Head and Neck are made of separated parts and have a very good range of motion. Head seems be able to turns 360 degree, but you do not want to do it, because he has this soft tendon at his neck cover hooked to his chest and they will retracted while you moving the head around. His look up movement is very limited though.
Shoulder and Arms
My only note for this area is about how thin and small the rubber straps that used to hold his bulky shoulder armors at its place. I do not know how fragile they would be, but just remember to reaaalyyyy becarefull while moving them around because they do feels like going to be cut off every time I try to move the shoulder armor.

removable arm's spike

Wrist joint connected using revoltech joint style which adds wide range of movement to the hands.
 Main Body
Articulaion for the main body are great. Chest, abs and hips are made of separated parts and they could support all the kungfu style that i've been planning to do with him.

The chest part could be replaced for doing the ‘kamehameha’ pose. It did not snap in secure enough by the way, so it may pop off when during making poses.

Legs Area
The only limited movements for his bottom part of its body appear at his ankle joint. They are covered by hard armor pieces which greatly limit its range of movements.  Other than that, they’re all marvelous.

 Accessories
Guyver comes with an alternatives chest pieces, four pairs of alternative hands, bio booster containment and two longer spikes for his elbow. Not much, but still all right for me. He also coming with figma’s regular stand base, an adapter and a small wrist joint spare.

Size
He's about the same scale as SHFiguarts so he'll blends well with others.

Final Thought
My main reason for not getting another Figmas before was not because they were bad, but because their articulation kind of lack for my taste and I don't know, the price tag seems too high for me. Guyver is an exception because I think I could compromise to the pricey thing due to his awesome looks and great pose-ability. He's highly recommended, especially for Guyver fans.
Just take note that he still feels as soft as any Figmas which make me assume that he may not as durable as let's say SHF or revoltech figures. I can't complain though because it’s already written on the box :)
