Revoltech Yamaguchi 080 Sengoku Basara Sanada Yukimura

Sanada Yukimura is one of the main protagonist from the games Sengoku basara. It’s one of my favorite games back days when Play station 2 still popular. He and Masamune Date were happening to be my favorite character too. So when I find that revoltech has made this character, I was really looking forward to get this figure in hand. Too bad, information and access to this type of action figure at the time it released (2009) was not as free as now in my country. So I just got him about one year ago.

The looks

His overall appearances are great IMO. Being a revoltech figure does not give him those jointy looks. I think that’s because his revolver joints have a quite proportional size along with his joint area. The paint application is a bit messy at several points, but still does not bother me much. His neck and waist has a visible gap for certain position, but still quite all right for me.

Now, the only complain from me was coming from his face. His face sculpt is actually pretty good, but the eyes… they doesn’t feels right and does make him looks like a sissy :). He looks much better from the angles where his eyes were hidden.

And the alternatives face… OMG it feels so wrong!

Joints and articulation
I consider his upper Body to be great. Revolver joints at head, neck, shoulder, waist, and swivel peg at wrist. Nothing hinder all around.  There is no joint at torso, but the way they make his upper body a bit hunched and combine with his neck articulation make him looks still very natural in his dynamic poses. So there nothing to complain about.

His lower body in the other hand… well not as good as I hope before.
First unsatisfaction comes from his hips joints which happen to be a hinge with only has about 90 degree front movements. I think they try to compensate this by using an asymmetry rotation joints at his upper thighs. It does make him looks to have the ability to do side kick or split pose, but still in a very limited state. Not bad off course, but doesn’t feels like a revoltech if you know what I means.

Second, well, potential problems come from its knee joints. Don’t get me wrong, it was a double revolver joint and functionally, they are perfect. I just think that they should made it by using harder material, because they feel too soft to be able to hold the figures body weight for a long period of time. So, one leg poses does not recommended although you could do it by attaching hole at his footsteps on the action base pegs.  This double joint also feels a bit unsecure when you try to rotate the lower legs around.

His foot pieces attached using a revolver joint. I think it has smart placement so it kind of help on stabilizing his standing pose.

Accessories
Being a revoltech release, i think Sanada cames with not too many accessories like others revoltech releases.

Alternate hand
It only has a pair of holding hand for alternatives. Both come with hinge peg so it could do a swivel movement.
Alternate Face
Pictures below show how the face connected to the head. I only do this once, which is while writing this post because most of time I do not really care about the alternative face :).
Head band and pony tail
They attached at the back hair using peg and hole. The ponny tail has a bit up-down movement.
Trisula

I don't know if I got the name right (too lazy to open goo*le and search :)) .This is the only weapon he got. It has two blades that could be re-attached, 2 short holder stick and 1 long holder stick. They attached to the holding hand by sliding them into the hand and it’s a little hard to do because the rings ornament around the edge of the stick kinda blocking the way. You might need a bit careful while doing it.
Others usual optional parts
Orange transparent box, stand base, feet stomp effect and the ultimate Orange coin.

Free Poses
This time I got helps from super friends.

Size comparison
Mecha revoltech usually smaller than 1/144 scale model, while their human figures are not. Maybe because they meant to be suitable when posing side by side with others human type action figures.

Final thought
He is definitely a must for fans of the series like me, considering that there were not really much decent action figure being released for this character so far.
If you are not a fan, I just say that he is a good one and still recommended for your collection but only if you could get him for a reasonable price. The fact that, he is an old release but became quite pricey now (because he became rare I guess?). It should be considered because you could find lots of more advanced figure at his same high price on these days.
